RESTART

RESTART

Board games, card games, and video games all have one common aspect:  At any point a player can quit.  No one makes us continue on if we get tired, frustrated, or see our demise nearing.  We have control of how long we want to participate.  We get to decide when we want to play or not play.  We even get to choose who participates with us in each game.  Some games are determined by chance, while others require some sort of knowledge or skill.  Most are combinations of luck and skill.

Why do we like playing games?  Is it because of the competitive nature involved or the opportunities to exercise some skills and abilities? Perhaps it is an escape from reality for a short period of time.  I’d like to consider that there is a hidden facet of control involved.  Each player in any game has the choice whether to be in the game, or not.

What does this have to do with me, you ask?

Some people might want to consider our lives as a big game, but I disagree.  Our lives are reality.  They are planned, purposed, and under the control of God Almighty.  Yes, we get to make decisions all along the way, but God does not leave us to chance.

Our lives have an aspect in common with the games we play:  No matter how many bad choices we make along the way, God has provided us a “restart.”  He provides that necessary RESTART just when we need it:  in the new year, the new month, and every new day.  And the cool thing is that there is no limit on how many times we use this option.

-Each of us has messed up our past with foolish, prideful, fearful, and selfish choices.

-Many have been the victims of someone else’s wrongdoings.

-We are all subject to the effects of a broken world full of evil and pain.

-We have consequences to face as a result of our sin.

But, we all can RESTART.

The old video games required only another quarter, and with today’s technology it’s only the push of a button. Restarting in life can be messy and even scary.

But, with God, RESTART is the only viable option.

And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”

Revelation 21:5 (New American Standard Bible)

As we head into a new calendar year, let’s take advantage of God’s RESTART every day.  No one day has to be like the one before.  Our paths before us are heavenly gifts, and they are lit by God’s truth.

GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME!
